You don't claim your kingdom by hiding in the palace.

Step out & grab what you can with both hands.

Well done, Byron!

Yes, Byron, Carpe Diem! I wholeheartedly agree that embracing this philosophy boosts our minds and deepens our understanding of poetry, as you've beautifully articulated. Your reflection perfectly captures how the sentiment, from Horace's original "pluck the day" to Marvell's vivid imagery, underscores the importance of awareness and gratitude in living fully. Recognizing every day as a new opportunity on our uniquely vibrant planet transforms each moment into a potential source of sweetness and enjoyment, just as poetry enriches our perception and appreciation of life.

Beautifully written as always. I need to steal some of your outlook! That said, while Carl Sagan might quibble over life elsewhere—certainly its potential—even if it had been discovered elsewhere, it shouldn't diminish what we have.

All true, Jeff. You're right; the potential is there, even if our ability to discover it is not quite at hand. To believe that we're the only sentient beings, on the only habitable planet in the universe, is absurd, of course. I doubt I'll see it in my lifetime, but someday, across the unimaginable light years of time, we will have contact with other intensely curious beings. And how exciting will that be?! Thanks for reading/commenting.
